Finn Michael: Seis Anos

Finn turned S-I-X last Friday!  He was counting down for days weeks and could not be more excited.  We celebrated with a small but super fun party at school before we headed out on our weekend trip to Quilotoa Lake.  The night before we let him open gifts from mom and dad.

The next morning we all boarded the big blue bus to school to celebrate Finn's special day.  The kids walked into their class to a boom box (yes, literally) blasting loud music and soon a game of musical chairs ensued.

After a few games lead by Tia Gaby (his teacher), the kids sat down to eat chocolate birthday cake from Godika (not a spelling error) that I somehow managed to order all in Spanish.  Finn also handed out sugar cookies that I made because he loves cookies (of course!) but also because this was my one and only opportunity to make a home made baked good for my child and his classmates.  After the kids loaded up on sugar we brought out the Pinata and  the party ended with all the kids dancing about...naturally.

This was right before the break dancing started
I just want to end on a note about my great big SIX year old boy.  I could not be a more proud mom.  He is the boy who lights up every room he enters and somehow easily with his smile puts everyone around him at ease.  He is a kind and gentle soul who cares deeply and thinks longingly and asks sooo many but all the right questions. This past year I watched him play t-ball for the first time ever with success, fall head over heals for not one but TWO girls, make up wild and crazy games with his vivid imagination, become a really loving big brother and best friend.  And even though when I look at him these days he looks so tall and thin and BIG (no!) all I can see is that pudgey little baby baby with giant blue eyes starring back at me.  I am so grateful to this boy who made me a mama...Happy six wonderfully perfect years.

XO Shannon (Mom)
