Some Small Comforts of Home Cuenca Style

One night after the kids had gone to bed and John and I were sitting around talking, weighing out all the pros and cons of leaving our comfortable life in our cozy little apartment, we spoke briefly of the benefit of all of living without for a while.  For the kids this meant they wouldn't have their favorite girlfriends who live next door to run over to play with at any given moment of the day.  Their beloved bikes and most treasured train tracks and other favorite toys would be left behind, too much to transport for such a short time.  Our apartment would be much smaller and with no land to run freely or ride bikes around.  Spending the afternoon at Diego and Inga's house with their children felt a little like home away from home.  They live on a breathtaking expanse of land in a lovely Spanish style home just outside the mountains here in Cuenca. Those trees that grow in their front yard are the popular Ecuadorian fruit Tomate de Arbol.  With a taste somewhere between a tomato and a peach, they make a lovely juice.

Not too Shabby

As John mentioned, Diego once worked for Specialized so adult and kid sized bikes were plentiful.  The kids played with Legos and all sorts of weaponry and it was not long before a Star Wars battle ensued complete with light sabers for all.

We ended the evening by indulging in more great conversation and a giant New York style pizza.  All in all it was a great way to end an already perfect day in the mountains.

This guy was happy there was only pork on our pizza
